Box Car War: Logistics of the Civil War examines the tremendous efforts of Union and Confederate forces to supply and maintain their armies in the field. The panel exhibit follows the process of raising massive wartime armies from small peacetime militia, the administrative burden of mustering in soldiers, as well as the process of providing orders on each level of the armies and navies from companies to corps, and from ship to fleet. Commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania State Memorial. The Association of
Licensed Battlefield Guides will be offering an open house program, free to the public, to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania State Memorial. The program will include a brief history of the memorial, individual presentations by licensed guides about select Pennsylvania regiments and a resource desk for genealogists researching Civil War ancestors. The first presentations start at 1:15pm with additional presentations being offered until 3:30pm. Underground Railroad Tour of Adams County – Freedom Lies Just North! Visit the pristine and historic Quaker Valley which is just 8 miles north of Gettysburg and learn about freedom fighters who aided freedom seekers over the Mason Dixon Line and into Pennsylvania. The tour last about 2 hours and costs $15 for adults and $5 for all students. Meet at 1 North Main Street in Biglerville, PA 17307 at the PNC Bank parking lot. Go north from Gettysburg’s center square on Route 34 for 7 miles to Biglerville. The PNC Bank is at the second traffic light which is also the intersection of routes 34 and 234.
