The annual anniversary of the three-day battle at Gettysburg is celebrated by the National Park Service July 1st to 3rd at Gettysburg National Cemetery. The National Park Service offers a variety of experiences, tours, hikes, and evening programs over three days. Various 60- to 90-minute walking tours are available for visitors, with the goal to bring to life various aspects of the Battle of Gettysburg. (Note: these programs involve significant walking.) For a complete list of times, be sure to check out the Anniversary website. The David Willis House Museum is also open to visitors.
Note that the National Park Service does not allow re-enactments within the memorial park itself. You can search local events calendars for those that take place on private property outside the park boundaries. The Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania also offers special programs to mark the battle’s anniversary. In 2023, they co-sponsored 100 Nights of taps each evening at the Solders’ National Monument.
Civil War historians and living history reenactors offer demonstrations at the Gettysburg National Park Visitor Center, and The Gettysburg Museum offers special talks and author book signings.
